Paro Festival
The Paro Tshechu Festival is a spectacle culture in Bhutan with the majestic dzong, lush valleys, a pristine river and a clear sky where town looks like a painting. Giving visitors an illusion as if they are in a dream. The annual celebrations commences on the 10th day of the second month according to the Lunar Calendar, typically occurs in March or April and draws both locals and tourists to witness different activities like Bhutanese festival costumes, Masks and Traditional dances of Bhutan. The festival takes place in the courtyard of the Paro Dzong, it is not just a festival but also it is their faith and belief, which celebrate in the form of Tshechu. Also, social gathering where Bhutanese comes together to celebrate heritage, traditional dances, partake in spiritual cleansing.
Highlights of the Paro Tshechu (Festival)
The Paro Tshechu Festival is event celebrated once in a year by offering valuable cultural and spiritual highlights that attract both local and tourists. Some of the key highlights of this festival are as follows:
- Traditional Mask Dances: These dances are performed by the monks and laymen by wearing silk costumes and performed various scared masked dances which includes deities, demons and animals. Each dance has story associated with it, depicted in the form of the performance.
- Unfurling of a Tangka: This moment occurs on the last day of festival with huge amount of crowd and excitement. People never miss this chance no matter what. The banner of Guru Rinpoche unwinding on the wall where it is considered as most auspicious ceremony. Witnessing of Thongdrel is believed to be washed away one’s sins and bestow blessings.
- Community Participation: Local people are participating in their finest clothes and have delicious Bhutanese cuisine packed with them. It is a time for socializing and rejoicing with unparalleled joy and enthusiasm.
- Spiritual Blessings: It is not just a festival. It is their faith and belief which celebrated in the form of Tshechu where offering spiritual cleansing and renewal. Also, being a part of Paro Tshechu shows how religious faith can mould one’s life towards the path of goodness.
