Buddha Point
Buddha Point, also known as Kuensel Phodrang, is a popular tourist attraction located just a short drive from Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. It is home to a massive statue of Buddha Dordenma, which stands 51.5 meters (169 feet) tall, making it one of the largest Buddha statues in the world. The statue, made of bronze and gilded in gold, was constructed to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the fourth king of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, and to fulfill two prophecies that foretold the construction of a large Buddha statue in this area. Inside, it houses over 125,000 smaller Buddha statues. Situated on a hilltop, Buddha Point offers visitors stunning panoramic views of Thimphu Valley and is a serene spot for meditation and reflection, symbolizing Bhutan’s deep connection to its Buddhist heritage.
