Overview (Black Necked Crane Festival)

The Black Necked Crane festivals is celebrated annually and it is of one day event celebrated at Gangtey Gonpa, Gantey-Phojokha valley in Wangdiphodrang District in central Bhutan each year on 11th November. This event is organized by the Gangtey-Phojikha Enviroment Management Committee. The biggest habitant of Black Necked Crane in Bhutan is Gantey-Phojikha vally in winter season with approximately 300 each year.

The festival serves as an occasion for the local to rejoice and celebrate the arrival of Black Necked Cranes and also, offer communities an opportunity to showcase their cultural heritage and skills. This festivals hold both spiritual and cultural significance by presenting different activities of traditional dances, masked danced, rituals and folk songs.
